FinishedInide.JPGOP Amp Preamp - inside the case6469 viewsOn the test bench for a short run-in period. The lids off waiting for smoke. No smoke but on the first start there was a minor fault. I have been listening to the preamp for two hours now and found it adds nothing to the sound (as a preamp should) and extends control with volume and balance adjustment. The yellow caps are 0.47 uF polypropylene metal film. Full details are available for this project at: DIY Op Amp based Preamplifier Project.
Jan6418JewelBox.jpg
Jan6418JewelBox.jpgRaytheon JAN6418 sub-mini valve preamp in a Jewelery box2723 viewsNot much to see here except to note this is an extremely "pretty" jewelery box of the timber variety. The box was reduced from $60 to $30 and this purchase prompted me to build the preamp. I like my pretty and cute enclosures. See other images for more detail. The preamp modules are part of a kit from Oatley Electronics Australia but many parts have been upgraded. The back holds a brushed Aluminum bar with the input/output RCAs and power switch. Should battery voltage fall below 6.8V (two lithium 9V batteries power the unit) a led on the cct. brd. will light. Lifting the gold catch and taking a look will disclose this.

The box is heavy and the wood thick and the Makassar timber pattern on the lid makes this a stunning enclosure, especially if you are bored with putting your creations into plain tin boxes. The preamp plays well but the tubes take a few hours to burn in so be warned.

Full details and variations to this tube preamp kit are available on the JAN6418 Valve (Tube) Preamplifier Kit page.

DIY-Dynaco-ST70-Tube-Amp.jpgDIY Dynaco ST-70 Tube Amp Rebuild2597 viewsThis ain't your father's Dynaco ST-70 amplifier. Mahogany case with toroidal power tranny.OPTs are original Dynaco 470s purchased via auction. Trannies "capped" with same wood. Features the tubes4hifi 12AU7 version of their driver board (and I woud never go back to the 12AT7 version now).
Re-issue GoldLion KT88s, Mullard 12AU7s. Fused with an IEC and on-off switch up front. Bias adjusting performed via Red Test Jacks perpendicular to holes cut for trimmers Ground/Common is Black test jack behind center driver tube. Tubes colored with LEDs.

DIY-6AS7-Tube-Headphone-Amplifier.jpg
DIY-6AS7-Tube-Headphone-Amplifier.jpgDIY 6AS7 Tube Headphone Amplifier5810 viewsMy name is Laurie. I have been building and DIYing for 45 years now and happily will never stop. This tube headphone amp is from a thread in the Form.

The power connecting cable comes from a European Travel Iron I bought for $1.00 at junk shop. (220v/6A) They will be shortened when I find a perch for the amp and me. The sound is better than my ears have ever heard so I will be keeping this one for my retirement entertainment should such a time ever come. Wink It has worked from day one and continues to please me every time it is turned on. The tubes are JJ ECC88 / 6AS7 with a 5V4 rectifier tube. To spite it's small size the parts are quite easily accessed. I over built most components so it will outlast me I fear. The only change I anticipate may be the 6AS7 to a bottle neck glass to match the rectifier tube. I do have and use a 6080 tube, but i can tell no difference in sound. It will take more then a few hours of listening to get my ears better tuned.

4-channel-400W-amplifier.jpg 4 channel, 400 W amplifier4492 viewsThis 4-channel 400 W amplifier uses Hypex UcD400HG modules together with the corresponding power supply.
The whole is mounted inside a Galaxy 330 x 230 x 80 case.
For building instructions, have a look at this project's wiki.
Two such amplifiers has been working for over 2 years in my lounge, driving Linn Komponent 110 loudspeakers which each have 4 speaker inputs.

E88CC-SV83-SET-Amplifiers.jpgDual SV83 SET Amplifiers4609 viewsA mirrored pair of SET amplifiers, presently being used in bridged mode. All P2P construction using silver solder. I included a "Hazen grid" capacitor and input tube bias change switch. The single mA meter displays individual output tube bias current with a Left/Right switch. Edcor XPRW178 power transformer and GXSE10-6-8K output transformers. Upgraded caps to Jantzen Audio 1200V Z-Superior. Upgraded resistors to PRP PR9372 Audio for metal film and TAKMAN REX for carbon film. ALPS Blue 100K attenuator. The power supply uses a RCA 5U4GB rectifier and Hammond 156R choke. Matched pairs of Svetlana SV83 for power and JJ E88CC for the input tube.

6V6-Push-Pull-Amplifier.jpgPush-Pull (PP) 6V6GT Tube Amplifier3759 viewsThis 6V6 amp was built following the DIY Push-Pull (PP) 6V6 / 6V6GT Tube Amplifier Schematic. Power Supply transformer and Output transformers are handmade in Argentina by NavasBaccino. I'd like to thank Brad S. for the help. The sound is amazing and clear, free of distortion.
