The New South Wales Free Flight Society Inc (NSWFFS) is the state body for Free Flight Model Aircraft in NSW.
Free flight is the oldest form of model flying. It offers fun and exercise in the open. With models ranging from gliders to rubber powered and diesel, glo-plug or electric engine types, they are built from plans, kits or can be purchased as ready to fly (RTF).
You can usually find members flying their models at Richmond on most Friday & Sunday mornings. Guests are welcome to fly at the field if they have the appropriate insurance.
The Free Flight at Richmond is a private property that is leased by the NSWFFS and registered with the MAAA for flying on Fridays & Sundays. There are certain conditions to flying here.
Flying is only allowed on Fridays and Sundays while NSWFFS Committee members are in attendance.
As the flying site is within 5.5km of Richmond Airfield, flying is only allowed after the Richmond RAAF Control Tower has been advised and approval has been obtained to fly.
Any non FFSNSW members should speak to a NSWFFS member and sign in before flying
All non FFSNSW members will require appropriate MAAA insurance before flying.
As this site is a working turf farm, all care should be taken to not spill fuel and/or drive motor vehicles on the turf.
Richmond Control Tower is to be notified when flying has finished.
Always leave gates the way you found them. ie. if closed, keep closed.
Directions from Richmond: Drive to Bensons Lane and follow 2km to end, turn right on to Cornwells Lane, follow 1.4km then turn right into Cornwallis Rd, follow for 300M, NSWFFS field is on the right at closed gate.
Directions from Windsor: Drive along Hawkesbury Valley Way past Crown Plaza turn Right into Percival St, follow past RAAF base 1.8km turn right into Cupitts Lane, follow 1.9km then turn left into Cornwallis Lane, follow for 2.2km to NSWFFS Field, closed gate on left.
The Jo & Adrian Bryant Free Flight Field at West Wyalong
Hello All, Following discussions with regard to use of the WW field it was decided to establish a "Friends of West Wyalong" register. If you are a member of the NSWFFS then you are automatically a "Friend" in that you can fly on WW whenever you like (with prior notification to NSWFFS). If you have a current MAAA membership card and are not registered through the NSWFFS, you can become a "Friend" by paying $30/year (July 1 - June 30) and be issued with a card to that effect. In this way NSWFFS can defray some of the costs of operating WW and ensure that those using the field have contributed. A sample card is shown below. Money orders or Cheques made out to NSWFFS can be sent to the Secretary: Roy Summersby, 132 The Esplanade UMINA NSW 2257. Your numbered card will be sent to you by return post.
If you wish to fly at West Wyalong and stay overnight please contact Roy Summersby by text or phone 0413588720. Please state how many in the group, how long you will be staying and your AUS number, or Friends of West Wyalong number.
Field directions to West Wyalong.
Address is 1390 Clear Ridge Road.
If travelling from Wyalong, the north or east (via Newell Hway or Goldfields Hway) to Wyalong turn right at Steel Street Wyalong and head north 2.5km to the cemetery and then turn right on to Clear Ridge Road and follow for 11.2km, the gate is on the right hand side, we should have a sign up for you.
If travelling from West Wyalong, the south or west (via Newell Hway or Mid Western Hway) drive east along Main St (Newell Hwy) approx 1.6km and turn left into Clear Ridge Road, (just past the Cameo Inn) and head north for 14km, the gate is on the right hand side, we should have a sign up for you.
Follow the driveway to the club house. The house is not visible from the road.
