BAT WORLD SANCTUARY

The Largest Bat Sanctuary on Earth

Bat World Sanctuary is on the front line to end the mistreatment of bats. Each year we rescue hundreds of bats who might otherwise die. Lifetime sanctuary is given to non-releasable bats, including those that are orphaned, injured, and rescued from the exotic pet trade, zoos and research facilities. We are also involved in conservation efforts both locally and internationally.

Bat World was founded in 1994 and is a 501c3 non-profit, accredited organization with the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.

Hey, we don't care how they get to us, as long as they get here safely. 👓🚒

This sweet little newborn evening bat was found in the parking lot of a Fire Station by Firefighter Colby. He grabbed the first thing available, his eyeglass case, and then transported the tiny baby to us. Colby named this little dude "Big Pimpin'. 😆

It's orphan season. By the time the summer is over we will have rescued and hand-raised dozens of sweet little souls like this one. They will be fed round the clock, and, when the time comes, will be able to hone their wings in our flight enclosure before being released back to the wild to eat millions of pesky insects. We feel sure Big Pimpin will be leading the way. <3

(Any donation, no matter how small, helps us save lives. Thank you for anything you can give!)

Lettuce time!

Dinner is served here at the sanctuary and The Captain is first in line to enjoy some fresh lettuce. The Captain is a 20 year old rescued Indian flying fox with a wing span of about 4 feet. With a wing span like that who wouldn’t let him have first dibs?

Did you know that Flying-Foxes are fast eaters and can digest their food in 15-20 minutes? He will definitely be back for seconds tonight! 🦇

Mealworm munches with Ben! 🔊

Ben is a Mexican free-tail, and is a permanent resident here at the Sanctuary. While most bats learn how to eat mealworms by themselves, Ben always needs a little extra help.

Batty fun fact: the Mexican free-tail bat is the official flying mammal of Texas! 🦇

Please don't destroy my nursery!

THERE IS NO HUMANE WAY TO EXCLUDE A BAT COLONY DURING BABY SEASON.

Most bats give birth to just one pup starting in late spring and summer. if you seal out a bat colony or trim down their palm frond home during the spring or summer, baby bats will be left behind to die. if you have an unwanted bat colony in your attic, ensure there's no way they can get into the home's interior but wait until the end of summer before having the colony excluded. Visit batworld.org for humane ways to evict bats at the proper time of the year. You can find a link down below.

Meet Linal! 🦇

Linal is a Mexican free-tail bat, and a permanent resident at the sanctuary. With a sweet face like that, we could not resist giving him an extra mealworm after dinner tonight! We always go the extra mile to satisfy our amazing batty residents. ❤️

Snack time with The Florida girls! ♥️

We think The Florida girls enjoy the rainy weather so they can enjoy extra snacks and naps all day, while our caregivers work extra hard to ensure a clean environment. What is your favorite rainy day activity? ☔️🌧️

Travis is a rescued Mexican free-tailed bat, who is also a permanent resident here at the sanctuary. He was rescued back in December during the cold-snap. He has become so accustomed to the fine dinning of mealworms we provide, that he decided to honor us with the best munching sounds tonight. Thank you Travis, we love taking care of you. ❤️
